How Many Times Has Elizabeth Warren Been Called Darling?
It seems journalists across the country have misplaced their thesauruses! The media just cannot refer to Elizabeth Warren as anything but a “darling” of something.
Yesterday, Paul Roy Jr. of the examiner.com wrote an article with the headline, “Hollywood’s newest darling – Elizabeth Warren.” This morning, Peter Lucas of the Lowell Sun referred to Warren as “the darling of the liberal establishment.”
This is hardly the first time the demeaning moniker of “darling” has been applied to Warren. The truth of the matter is there are plenty of non-gendered ways to get this point across.
Since the last time this came up the reporter asked for suggestions, we’ve got one, how about “favorite?” “Champion?” “Choice?” Clearly there are lots of better words to choose from than “darling.”
Even if it’s occasionally applied to men, “darling” is still gendered and demeaning. The media should find another word.
