Melissa Harris-Perry: Could 2012 Be the Year of the Woman?

On her Sunday show Melissa Harris-Perry breaks down the sad statistics of women’s general lack of representation in Congress (including 4 states that have never had a woman delegate). But is there a better outlook in the future? Could 2012 be the Year of the Woman (again)?

In a second segment Harris-Perry has a panel discussion featuring Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Ed Rendell, Anthea Butler, Emily’s List Stephanie Schriock and Democratic candidate for Congress Krysten Sinema to talk about some of the issues that may have kept the numbers of women in Congress so low.

Groups like Emily’s List as well as our own She Should Run are so very important in both encouraging women to run for office but also helping them get elected. They believe in dramatically increasing the number of women in public leadership so that statistics, like those in the segment, are much improved.
