Tube Top Isn’t On Her Resume
Name It. Change It. is especially disappointed in one St. Louis political blogger linking to this insanely sexist blog post. The obscure and amateurish blog makes light of Jackson County legislator Crystal Williams’ announcement that she is considering running for State Senate in Missouri. The blogger writes:
“It’s nice to see that Crystal Williams expects girl power to win her votes because she doesn’t have much else to run on…unless she starts showing up in a tube top!!!”
Excuse me?!? Citing a woman candidate’s body as her only qualification for office is textbook sexism. The blogger gives away his opinion of women pretty early with the idea that if Williams runs it will be on the “girl power” platform. She won’t be running to represent her constituents, to fight for families or to improve her District’s infrastructure, no; she’ll run for sassy feminists that parade down the street in tube tops spouting lines like “girl power!”
The blogger goes on to write: “Crystal Williams seems to believe that she deserves a promotion based mostly on her lady parts.” So if Williams were a man would he be running because of his “male parts”? We doubt it.
This argument that Williams’ lack of experience disqualifies her from running is a veiled attempt to hide this blogger’s real opinion of women: that they shouldn’t run or hold elected office at all. That’s Really Damn Sexist.
